First of all, it is not uncommon for men to wear makeup specially in the acting, beauty, and fashion industry. Putting on makeup for editorial photo shoots is a must to make it easier for the photographer to retouch. Not only that, male models need to look very 3 Dimensional to make them look chiseled, tanner, or very matte (oily skin can reflect too much light) and doesn't look good in magazines. These male models are used to wearing makeup, and are very conscious about touching their face. They have makeup artist and other people wiping their sweat for them in between clicks of the camera. Film making also magnifies the actors' skin 100x specially on tight takes so they really need to pile on the makeup to withstand all the lights, the cameras, and the heat. Without makeup, they will tend to look very pale and flat.
Makeup artists like me have to exaggerate these models jaw lines, cleft chins, nose lines, and cheekbones to make them look more high fashion and more model-esque when walking down the runway or posing for photo shoots.

Some people go off running in the other direction once they hear the word "contour". A lot of women can benefit from contouring when it is done right and in the right places. You do not have to completely alter your face to make you look stick thin, that would only make you look ridiculous.
In our line of work, contouring is crucial so that the model, bride, or celebrity will have dimension on camera or on tv. Otherwise, they will just look flat because of the harsh lights. My mom and I went to SM Makati today so I can buy a new toner. Of course, I couldn't go to SM without looking around for new products! Mom was in Elianto for a while trying on lipstick after lipstick so I decided to look at their new products. That's when I discovered the BB Balm, and their Natural Mineral Finishing Powder.
Ever since I did that review on Maybelline's BB Cream/Tinted moisturizer, I got curious what "BB" meant. Take for example the model I put makeup on (photographed) a few months ago, Rica. She's Filipino-Korean and I just admired her skin. I just thought that they were born with it. But after a little research, I found out about the BB Cream. Doesn't it seem like every Korean actress is blessed with naturally flawless skin? Well, maybe so but now we know that they are also armed with a secret weapon called the BB Cream. When wearing lipstick, regardless of what color, the question of whether coloring inside or outside the lines have always been an issue. Depending on the effect you would want to achieve, there is no right or wrong way when putting on your lipstick.
I took photos of my own lips so that you can see the different effects on coloring inside and outside the lines. I used a matte red lipstick so that the effect is more obvious: |
